To get your career as a design engineer off the ground, you usually need a combination of work experience and qualifications. An apprenticeship gives you both, including on the job training and study away from the workplace. You will gain a range of different qualifications which will put you in a great position when looking to progress your career.
Cadcoe offers the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Construction. The programme takes up to 2 years to complete, during which time you will achieve the following qualifications:
– ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Construction Design and Draughting,
– Edexel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, which is the equivalent of 2 A Levels
– Functional Skills in maths, English and IT, where required
Our Apprenticeship is unique in the fact that you complete a fast-track course in 2D digital design and 3D modelling, before you join your employer full-time, giving you a real head start in your career, and the confidence to make an impact in the workplace from day 1. This takes place at Dudley College of Technology, with a residential option for those that are unable to travel.
From day one of your apprenticeship you will be earning a wage. The minimum training allowance is £3.70ph, but many employers pay more or will advance your salary as you progress.
We can help you to find a suitable employer to complete your apprenticeship with. The type of business you could be employed with could include, working in a design office for: steelwork fabricators and manufacturers, construction firms or an architect. You will have a mentor in your workplace to support you throughout your training.

How to apply
Our programme starts in March and September every year, therefore you can apply for an existing apprenticeship vacancy, or if we don’t currently have positions available, you can submit a general application to us. We love to hear from students who are looking at their options after school or college and are able to offer you an initial one to one appointment to find out if our programme is right for you!
